We find a useful way to start optimising the processes is to document them in a manner that complies with ISO 9000, but not necessarily seeking accreditation to the Standard.
This sets in place a system for Continuous Improvement of the processes and therefore the system.
The ultimate benchmark for the organisation wanting to optimise it’s processes is the EFQM Excellence Model (known as the Business Excellence Model in the UK). Assessment against the Model is the first step towards establishing where your organisation stands with regard to the best! To be up there with the best requires commitment to a long term programme of gradual change over a number of years.
